Nazarene Missions International (NMI)

Besides local MAD (Making A Difference) projects, the Nazarene Church is a denomination wholly devoted to spreading the word of the gospel through missions, and below you will find some of the ways we accomplish this goal. For more information on Nazarene Missions International (NMI) Click HERE.

Alabaster

The Alabaster Offering provides funds for churches, schools, medical facilities and homes for missionaries and workers around the world. By using the traditional Alabaster Box (available at the church office), individuals are challenged to sacrifice the cost of items they desire but do not need. This plan of giving is modeled after the sacrifice of the woman who anointed Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume poured from an alabaster jar (Matthew 26:6-13). Calvary Church also provides a “FUN-nel” coin collector in the lobby where kids of all ages can have extra fun watching their donated coins as they take a winding path toward the cause of buildings for missions.

Since Alabaster is a special offering not included in Faith Promise pledges, everyone can give a special Alabaster gift, even if they participate in Faith Promise at Calvary Church. Alabaster offering is collected during the months of February and September.

L.I.N.K.S.

L.I.N.K.S. stands for "Loving, Interested Nazarenes, Knowing and Sharing."
The LINKS program of the Church of the Nazarene is a network of personal connections between missionaries and Nazarenes around the world. Missionaries are assigned to districts and, then on the district level, connected to local churches. This gives each church an opportunity to become personally acquainted with the missionary family and their field of service. Typically, churches send packages, cash gifts, cards, and other remembrances to their LINKS missionaries.

Missionary Health Care

The cost of keeping missionaries healthy so they can do their jobs is quite high, and the cost continues to rise. To help defray those costs, the Nazarene Missions International developed the NMI Missionary Health Care.

Missionary Health Care helps pay for the medical expenses of Nazarene missionaries. It accounts for about 25% of the total medical expenses (approximately $500,000). Hopefully, with increased awareness of and participation in the Missionary Health Care, that amount will increase.

Did You Know . . .

Though there are several insurance companies that offer worldwide coverage under their plans, The Church of the Nazarene has chosen to continue coverage via a self-funded plan for economic reasons.
Those expenses total approximately $2.9 million each year.

Gifts From The Heart

Gifts from the Heart (GFTH) is a facet of the NMI Missionary Health Care designed to make giving to the NMI Missionary Health Care easy. "In Memory" and "In Honor" cards can be picked up at the GFTH display rack in your local church. Available in both English and Spanish, these attractive cards are a great way to show someone you care while helping Nazarene missionaries at the same time. (Display racks are also available in Spanish.)

To participate in GFTH, follow these simple instructions:
  • Choose your donation amount and make the check payable to "General Treasurer, Church of the Nazarene." Write "Gifts From the Heart" on the memo line of the check.
  • Enclose your check in the convenient remittance envelope and mail it.
  • Write a personal note in the space provided on the gift card and give it to the appropriate person (or mail it to them).
  • That's it! Your gift is on its way to your loved one, and your donation is on its way to the Global Treasury Services Office. The best part is that you helped provide much-needed health care for more than 700 Nazarene missionaries and their families ministering around the world.

Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award (DSA) is a tribute to church people who are living and for their service to the church. Although the DSA is given through NMI, it need not be given in the area of missions. A church may wish to honor anyone in the church for their efforts.

The cost of the DSA remains at $100 (U.S.). The DSA certificates fit into an 8"x10" standard sized frame. The DSA certificates are printed in black and gray on fine white paper, with touches of gold foil to enhance the look of the certificate.

Memorial Roll

The Memorial Roll, established in 1919, is a way to honor deceased friends and loved ones. A certificate is issued in the name of the person memorialized and is often presented to a family member or displayed in the church. Churches or individuals may place as many names on the Memorial Roll as they desire, and those memorialized need not be members of the church
